Abstract

Cinnamic acid and its various derivatives demonstrated a wide spectrum of biological activity, implying that they could be used as scaffolds to provide good biological activity. The chemical structures of the synthesized derivatives were validated using spectral data obtained from several spectrophotometers such as FTIR, MASS, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. This research aimed to synthesize acetylated cinnamic acid derivatives and explore their antimicrobial and antibacterial activities. The antibacterial activity was assessed using the Kirby-Bauer Test against two typical bacterial strains: Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The biological investigation revealed that acetylated derivatives possess moderate to good antimicrobial activity.
